In GPS we trust!
A British ambulance blindly followed their GPS system 200 miles the wrong way while ferrying a patient from the King George Hospital in Ilford to the Mascalls Park Hospital near Brentwood.

The trip is only 12 miles and should only take about thirty minutes, but the ambulance crew turned it into an eight-hour roundtrip to Manchester.

Story from here. The reason why it's alway best to have someone with you who actually knows the way. Old fashion maps and even complicated GPS system can lead you to another planet at a certain point.

The use of a GPS requires some training. Unable to be trained, the idiots can imagine that's the way to reach other Planets!

True, anonymous. However, most of what we use is usually presented as being very easy. Click, click and you are there! You must have heard it, the idiot proof software or gadget! Also, most human made things have bugs and break down...The trick is to know when that happens. And I am sure the idea should have occurred to them somewhere during the first 50 miles.

I think the ambulance system must rely on the human experience more than that, a person who knows the roads well and who can follow the directions with out any problems, relying totally on maps or GPS systems can always lead to desasters, they must be there in case of emergency but not the contrary.

Modern technology is wonderful when used by trained professionals such as the ambulance crew:

'Fortunately the patient is still alive and the ambulance company says, "The patient was in a comfortable condition at all times while in our care"'

If the British medical system is anything like the Canadian system, the patient probably was billed for the extra seven and a half hour ride.

Tubby, that was soo funny? But how much truth is it in there? Is the Canadian system so bad? I always thought there are few countries with a medical system worse than Romania.

Alina, there is lot of truth in it. Whichever political party governs Canada tells us how great our medical system is because the governing party wants to look good to Canadians. But the opposition parties, including the governing party when they are in opposition and not the governing party, often criticise the health care system of Canada. To be fair, there are some good things about our health care system but there are also some serious problems and the case is being made by many Canadians that the system is getting worse not better.
