Nowhere to go but up
We all have our darker moments when we feel alone, left out, under appreciated, mistreated, misunderstood, and generally bad. What we'd like to do is hide away until we feel better or until something good just makes everything look bright and sunny. Most of the times, this is impossible. We have to get ourselves together and fast. And leave the hiding away and contemplating our wounds for later on.

So here's what I do at such times:
  • go see a friend and listen to his stories for a while
  • tell a short version of what's going on
  • call my mom
  • make a special play list of songs that calm me down
  • stop for a second and think a bit of those with real and bigger problems
  • allow my generally optimistic self to take over and drive
  • enlarge the importance of other aspects of my life
  • get something tasty for lunch
  • buy myself something nice if I have enough time
Update:
News like this one beats everything on the list. Congrats Sim!

What do you do in such cases? What sets you back on track?

    hi alena,
I think the title of this post is very true and summarizes the whole idea ,whenever we find ourselves feeling hopeless we should put a smile on our face and look up..:)

I usually turn to one of my true loves, which is rock music, and just bleed it out in time. And sometimes I can't but notice how when I need it the most, there's a major (at least for me) rock event approaching. Kind of emo, I know, and not the best approach but my optimistic part is still too young at hasn't gotten its drivers' license yet.

Ryan, I wish I could join you at the concert you are going to see in Bucharest :) And be careful when using the word Emo. I've read enough posts on the Romanian blogsphere about people wanting to kick your ass for being an emo kid :)

GraY FoX, that sounds good. But given the fact I cook a few times a year, I still have a lot to wait :D Anyway, not being able to move or breathe because of too much food is quite an interesting sensation. :P

I'd kick my ass too if I could only reach.

As 'm sure you already noticed/ read :P, I complain. For me, it means that I let it out of my chest, so I can move on (or at least try).

Ryan, no! Don't try it! next thing I know my lil bro will be wanting to take a few ribs off to be able to kick himself on a daily basis :))

Zu, yeah, I also do that a lot! :D It doesn't always help, but it's worth trying :)
