History books
Businessman Ovidiu Tender is currently being investigated for some illegal affairs. What and if he did it is not the subject of this post, what he said is. Now I agree being held in prison for two days with no reason and no legal backup is an abuse. But Mr. Tender said he will appear in history books as a victim of Capitalism, along with the victims of Communism. Could someone tell me how do those two days compare to years of imprisonment, severe beatings and hard labor? Yeah, maybe he will be mentioned as a footnote of a footnote!

    Alina,

Give the guy a break. Our own problems are always bigger to us than anything others experience. There's an Arabic saying that means "when you say the trials of others your own trials seem simple in comparison" but I've seen little evidence of it in real life.

Used to hate it when I'd get migraines & Mom would start telling me about all her patients who were terminal cases & had much worse pain & who complained less than me, that am lucky etc.... Migraines HURT. And at that moment you just don't feel lucky. You just don't.

Besides the fact that he said that might mean Romania is developing higher standards for human rights which is good right?

But seriously, who's this guy? I, for one, never heard of him... so I doubt he'll make it to the history books... ;)

Lou, maybe you are right. But after the Revolution, when I was still quite young, I've seen this documentary called "The Memorial of Pain" about what happen to political prisoners. Trust me, nothing compares to that! I used to cry every week when it was aired and then I simply stopped watching...

As for the human rights issue, I agree, it has improved. But all he wanted was some bobastic quote in news reports.

Loloma, he is a businessman, quite famous in papers. Will post more about him soon as an update to this post :)

So... I googled the guy. And guess what I found out? That his lawyer might be one of my former Law School teachers! I mean, they certainly have the same names and I'd be really surprised if there were two different lawyers with THAT same name.

Mr. Tender seems to be, indeed, the target of abuse by the judicial system. He also seems to have an elevated sense of self. A victim of capitalism???

Loloma, there is a strong chance he really is your teacher! Funny coincidences at each step, ha?

DCS, you are absolutely right! He is the victim of some prosecutors who didn't quite do their job, that's all!

usually the people who make the most noise also manage to attract the most attention, irrespective of whatever their persuations...

self-inflated grandstanding is a cheap way of massaging popular sympathy instead of trying to articulate the issues involved honestly... i don't know if that's totally the case here, but the language used is symptomatic of such a way of thinking...

    keep well :D
