Walking in the Rain
It's been raining all day today. And it's been a long while since I've enjoyed rain so much. So I still linger in this morning's memories of warm drops on my face, the wind messing with my hair and my hopeless attempts to stop it. What I love most about spring rain is the flower petals that get mixed between the rain drops. They usually turn my surroundings into this dreamy, fairytale scenery. And everything suddenly becomes possible...
What I would actually love to do on such a day, instead of going to work, is to go for a walk. I'd take my transparent umbrella, but I forgot it in Ploiesti a while ago. I'd walk the streets of Bucharest, contrasting with the rest of the people, who are generally in a hurry. Funny thing, the first drops of rain make everyone speed up, like they're about to run.
When I'd tire of so much wandering, I'd enter a coffee shop. I'd ask for a huge coffee, with cream and everything. Cherry Mocha, maybe? Yes, I am truly obsessed with that! I'd pull out my book and start reading for a few hours. Then, when I'm all warmed up and my clothes are dry, I'd get back to my walk.
As I am sure I'd eventually grow tired again, I'd take myself to a movie, all by myself. I guess I'd select the movie during my walk, as I would pass by several cinemas. I don't think I've ever been to a movie by myself. I have no idea how that feels.
I'd then love to meet a friend, or more of my friends, for an evening drink and maybe dinner. Then I'd go home and back to my book after an extremely long shower.
Reading back, I can say this is a great plan to spend a day. I cannot make sure it's a rainy one, but I have a good idea of when to schedule the rest. If you decide to spend a day all alone, which would be the perfect plan for it?

That sounds like a beautiful plan. I'd even dare ask you letting me join, but then you wouldn't be spending the day alone, would you? My perfect day all alone atm is one that I got to live last summer, while I was in Constanta and Olive had the most horrendous work schedule: I slumbered in bed till almost noon, then kind of left in a hurry with Olive so she wouldn't be late for work. I went to Ovidiu Square and had a shaworma for breakfast/lunch. The day was spent just walking around the city, and not only, as I decided to turn around when I reached the Casino in Mamaia, so I headed back to the harbor. Had a pizza at "Vraja Marii" at Gate 1 (worst pizza ever, but it was a restaurant, so they're excused). The rest of the evening was spent again in long walk on the beach. It was quite crowded as it was Navy's Day and there were a lot of shows there. The one that caught my attention instantly was of course the Iris concert. When that ended, some more walking on the beach (it was a lot more quiet now, as the concert ended the program for the event), then took a cab back home. Bought a bar of chocolate and read until Olive returned from work.
First: reading a book in a coffee shop? Interesting activity. It never crossed my mind it was possible.
Second: "Alone" is not a perfect day for me. There has to be a [special] someone. Not necessarily in person, and by this I mean I can be physically alone, yet with my mind targeted at someone else and doing an activity related to that thought, like writing a letter. I did this thing I describe once: one summer day in a public garden/park, I spent 3-4 hours writing a letter :) on a park bench, under a tree, surrounded by bird songs. Em... the pen on paper kind of letter. :D And nobody bothered calling me on my cell, so it was pretty good.
It actually happened to me to spend a day all alone, and I think it was perfect :D Last summer, while I was in Belgrade, I happened to have a day off my job in the middle of the week... so I had nothing to do, as my colleague was out of town…
I went downtown, and I took a nice, long walk, from the St. Sava's Temple to the heart of this city … Knez Mihailova Street, a pedestrian zone and also a shopping centre. Then, I found one of my favourite places – palačinka store (huge, delicious pancakes :D )…
After this, I continued my walk to the Kalemegdan park. This is actually a kind of old forest around the city fortress, very close to the centre of the city, bordered by Sava river and Danube on the northern part. Again, to make my perfect day, in the middle of this park, the police’ fanfare was playing classical waltzes, and everybody stopped to listen to the music, and even to dance. I still remember a old woman, with her 4 or 5 years old nephew.. she was teaching him to dance…
I rested for a while on a bench, admiring the Sava river and the sun reflecting in the water… then, I took the tour of the fortress, resting again on the fortress wall … and I went back to the city…
I ended up my day at home, watching a movie, stopping from time to time to chat with my friends on messenger…
(I couldn't resist the temptation, so I added this to my blog, with pictures :P)
RCX, sometimes you need time for yourself. focusing on your own needs and ways of spending time. Sometimes you have to be star of your mind, so that you meet, have a chat, decide what's next etc.
I miss writing such letters.
Silviana, sounds great.I imagine I saw most of the photos, but I'll take another look :). As for pancakes, we should try that place near Unirea :P
