On deadlines
Do deadlines help when you have something to do, something that starts with an idea that then makes everything so clear? Is it enough to know you should finish something in two days, although you fail to have a clear view on that particular something? Does pressure make you thing more or does it add more stress, chasing off the ideas that maybe you could have gotten?

I think it only helps to keep you focused. And sometimes that might lead to opening your brain enough to make some connections between older ideas and data and actually and actually build the framework of what you have to do.

For me, getting the idea is of ultimate importance. When this part is very clear in my head, getting everything on paper is really easy. If everything is foggy and kind of in the dark, it takes twice as much (sometimes more) to get it done and it is never as good.

Now I pray for an idea, a good one to build on.

i'd agree... a deadline gives one a point of focus, a limit to which we need to adhere to instead of giving ourselves up to the indecisiveness of the infinite...

i like deadlines, and i hate them but need them more than ever... usually my best ideas transpire just before the deadline is due and i need to move like greased lightening, but at the same time in my subconscious there has been considerable activity working out ideas and possibilities... the result is that, just before it's too late, i have the most wonderful ideas which work out without too many difficulties... strange that, but that's the way i like to work...

keep well, and keep on smiling :D

Deadlines are a pain! Unfortunately nothing in the work-world operates without these deathly deadlines. I guess they owe their existence to the procrastinators of the world ( me!).
    Nice blog!

Creativity process can be sometimes affected by deadlines ,some people needs an open time frame inorder to achieve a satisfying level in their works ,but I think that it depends on the person him/herself cause some people as you said get more focused with deadline chasing them and others get confused and troubled and may end wih what they call a (Writer's block).

Please post the kind of ideas you wishing for and we may be able to help you ,we can do some brainstorming!

I hate deadlines yet they are needed. Sometimes help you be more practical and help you focus. Make you get an idea, an initial one at the very least, build on it and maybe later you can expand on. I guess deadlines with relation to ideas is like a shaked can of pepsi or coke. Energize you to later burst out when it is time to enjoy the drink.

The best thing is when you do write an idea of yours. Like birthgiving. Lots of time you dont even know u have an idea in mind until you start writing. What I do is I always know I have an idea but it is playing hide-and-seek with me. I recognize that. start writing down. Writing and erasing. Unconnected thoughts, yet, suddenly I am able to connect them all together. All the seemingly disconnected are so well bonded.

So my advice, if any, is to start. Just start and it will come.

Tota, different types. But most of all, a research idea for my final paper! :)

Bart, I also like this kind of work. But it seems my savior is not near by, although the deadline is...I keep smiling, it helps get good ideas :))

Id it is, thanks for the visit. I feel them as a pain right now!

Nightlegend, a writer's block cannot indeed be solved by deadlines. I think here Haal's advice works better: just start writing and keep writing no matter how hard it seems, something might come up.

What I agree with is that people usually have different ways of thinking/working and deadlines should be adapted to these.

Haal, that is a good idea in some cases...In mine, unfortunatel, all I can do is search other blogs, newsblogs mainly and hope something would strike me. Yet is the same pattern, start and it will come to you.

But tell me something, why would you think of mentioning Pepsi first when I am a Coca-Cola fanatic? :))

    Kayla,

Deadlines are nightmares. They make me so tense!

But let's face it, nothing would ever get done without them.

We're all secretly humming along with the Procrastinator's Song:

Never do today what you can do tomorrow.
And never do tomorrow what you can avoid altogether.

In fact, your post made me think about the very word "deadline". Check this out:

    Deadline will kill you!

George, I've just registered for OJR. I've visited the site before, but haven't registered until now. Why is is that when I click the link in your comment it does not work? Got it, letter missing. So everybody, George's post on the matter can be found at this link:

You did hit a chord Kayla. I hate deadlines. However, I never do things except when I’m under pressure. But still, if I’m pressured, my mind is blocked. I can’t come up with any new ideas, nor accomplish my work. I’m sure one day deadlines will cause a nervous breakdown.

I am sure they are responsible for a lot of those, Moon! :))
