Morning fun!
Just when I thought the night is finished without anything good or interesting happening, my colleague R came across this! The Romanian Mint Rubbing Association’s translations of ancient Romanian wisdom! Mint Rubbing means something like completely wasting your time, aka “Cutting leaves for the dogs”. As far as I am concerned, the translation is not very funny for foreigners, but it definitely can make Romanians laugh, mostly because when reading these phrases in English, you need a few seconds to figure out what the Romanian expression is. So enjoy! And a personal favourite - rubbing mint techniques!

    The Site says:
"Wisdom provides all the necessary information you will need to lead a happy and fulfilling life."

Wish if it's that easy to get happiness through wisdom

Well, if you're a mint rubber, everything is actually very easy...For the rest of the world, things get a bit more complicated.

"Once a mint rubber, always a mint rubber." by... me :)

I han read that some time ago but it was a pleasure to read it again. I have showed that to strangers and they didn't even smile while I was almost dying. It's just like taking them to Sapanta, to Cimitirul Vesel. We would spend an entire day laughing while they would look and say "What a nice picture!". This is romanian culture. Mint rubbing IS romanian culture.

So, to all the mint rubbers in the world keep up the good work ;)

And, by the way, put the mint rubbing on the list of "Don't try this at work".

    Cheers,
    Sim

wonderful... i don't understand a moment of it, but i suspect that somebody with an equally absurd sense of humour would if confronted with it... (sounds strange, this sentence)

is it something like being an aardvark tamer?

"Ninth sky" (happiness) sounds a lot like "seventh heaven."

But why would people cut leaves for dogs?

Since I'm totally clueless here, you must be laughing at this question...

Well, now that the blogger maintenance is gone, I can finally reply your comments.

    Bart, copy/pasted from tag board:

Bart, I don't know what that means! Just as you don't understand the mind rubber definitions i guess! You have to have some knowledge of Romanian to understand these phrases. Otherwise they are just some senseless stuffs. It is something like...a person wasting time, not worrying about anything, just hanging = a mint rubber!

Paul, cutting leaves to dogs, burning gas, rubbing mint and cat's tail pulling all have the same meaning - wasting your time doing nothing. It is something you'd say about someone who's taking an extended break from everything, sometimes prettending he'e doing something of importance. Read the horoscope for more details about this, it may help.
